has glosseng: Combat Rescue Officer (CRO) is a specialty in the United States Air Force. Its Air Force Specialty Code (AFSC) is 13DXA and it was created to strengthen the personnel recovery abilities of the USAF. In addition to commanding a small team of pararescue personnel in enemy territory, a Combat Rescue Officer also advises battle staff units in recovery operations. The formation of CRO in 2002 allowed for commissioned officers to participate in the combat rescue mission for the first time. Currently this specialty is only open to males.
