has gloss	eng: Grotesque dance is a category of dance that began in the early court dances of the 18th century. It was a differentiation between the classical ballet or noble dance and the "danse grotesque" created for buffoons and comic artists. The word grotesque here refers to the fact that many of its performers were physically deformed but it is not to be confused with the ugliness of the early modern dance movement of the late 19th century.
