has gloss | eng: Open Platform as a Service (OPaaS or Open PaaS) is an open, distributed computing model. Similar to traditional Platform as a Service - with the most important difference being that it is open. The fear of vendor lock-in has led to a new variety of Platform as a Service emerging: Open Platform as a Service. This would offer the same approach as Platform as a Service, except that there is no constraint on choice of development software. It avoids the possibility of lock-in. OPaaS is another step in the Application Service Provider, SaaS, PaaS evolution. Different from the older, closed Platform as a Service (PaaS) Open Platform as a Service) OPaaS lets developers create loosely coupled applications using any programming language on any server, any OS, any database, etc. By sitting on top of traditional Platform as a Service (PaaS), Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and clouds, (e.g., Amazon Web Services, Google App Engine, private cloud, etc.) Open Platform as a Service enables the use of any underlying technology when creating and using Web applications. |
